Students organize University Sustainability Days

The Freiburg “University Sustainability Days” from Saturday, May 21, 2022 through Thursday, May 26, 2022 are a series of events with workshops and campaigns, lectures and discussions. Freiburg students have been organizing the University Sustainability Days on a voluntary basis since 2017, and the events are aimed at both students and the broader public. They are supported by the student initiative “Sustainability Office” at the University of Freiburg together with partner initiatives.

Listening, Movement, Participation

The series of events starts with a clothing, plant and book exchange, where everyone can bring favorite items to give away and look around for new favorite items themselves. The workshop “Psychological Resources for Change” will explore the question of how educational work can help to strengthen and encourage people to shape the future. The organizer is the “One World” Forum Freiburg.

A lecture on “Biodiversity Crisis and Agriculture” is part of the program, as is the panel discussion "Changing the World at the Municipal Level? Here#s what Freiburg can do!” During this event, students will discuss with young local politicians and Prof. Dr. Daniela Kleinschmit, Vice-President for Internationalization and Sustainability at the University of Freiburg.

If you want to get moving and do something for the environment, you can take part in the 3rd Rainforest Run Freiburg organized by the Athletics Club Freiburg. Or help collect trash during a clean-up campaign on the Dreisam River.

Cooking, clothing, craftsmanship

During a vegan cooking class, the participants will first prepare a vegan menu together under supervision, then they get to eat it, of course. During a Future Fashion Tour, the participants learn where in Freiburg they can find clothing from fair, ecological production and where they can get second-hand clothing.

At the Market of Opportunities, many university groups and initiatives that deal with the topic of sustainability will present themselves. At a poster campaign in front of the Rempartstraße cafeteria, everyone can become artistically active themselves. And in the entrance area of the Freiburg University Library, tracks will be installed on the floor where interested people can have their personal ecological footprint calculated based on their lifestyle.
