Learning and Teaching Day 2022 at the University of Freiburg

Six workshops, two keynotes, a panel discussion, and the presentation of the 2021 E-Instructional Development Awards await participants on November 11, 2022

Freiburg, Oct 24, 2022

In the wake of digital transformation, numerous changes in the area of teaching and learning were initiated last year, new teaching formats were tested, new learning strategies were developed and new support formats were established. At the "Learning and Teaching Day 2022", students, teachers, and employees from the field of teaching and learning can inform themselves about the challenges, opportunities, and possibilities of how learning and teaching will succeed at the university of tomorrow.

Keynote speeches, workshops and panel discussion on digital and hybrid learning and teaching

Prof. Dr. Christian Kohls from the Cologne University of Applied Sciences will present solutions for the future design of hybrid campus learning spaces in his keynote speech. The second keynote presentation by Dr. Markus Deimann, Managing Director of the State portal ORCA.nrw, is devoted to the ongoing debate about how much digitization a university and its teaching require.

In small groups, concrete assistance on various aspects of modern learning and teaching will be developed in the workshops: Leon Widmaier from the Department of E-Learning at the University of Freiburg would like to take away any fears or ambiguities teachers may have in dealing with Open Educational Resources. Sven Slotosch, also from the E-Learning department, clarifies the question: Digital exams according to Corona - how does it work? Dr. Tanja Krämer-McCaffery and Dr. Günter Schmidt-Gess from the Department of Teaching Strategy and Digitization at the University of Freiburg advise how teachers can successfully acquire third-party funding for teaching projects and offer the opportunity to formulate concrete application ideas as abstracts. Dorthe Hutz-Nierhoff from the E-Learning department, Stefanie Klose from University College Freiburg and Marei Nagy from the International Office want to inspire enthusiasm for teaching in EPICUR and draft initial ideas for future learning and teaching opportunities with the participants. Dr. Lena Krämer and Dr. Sashi Grünzig from the Department of Psychology will compile their practical experience with digital self-learning modules and work out with interested parties how these can optimally complement classroom teaching. Dr. Lisa Hüther-Pape from the Department of University Didactics and Digital Teaching Development will show what opportunities a heterogeneous student body offers in (digital) learning and teaching contexts.

Prof. Dr. Michael Schwarze, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at the University of Freiburg, will present the E-Instructional Development Awards 2021: Three projects that further develop the digital components of study programs and teaching offerings will be honored: Dr. Flavio Bessi from the Department of Sport and Sport Science will be honored for his program “Work (it) out!” - On the independent search of athletic performance with digital support" will be honored.
