Religion in today’s popular culture
Freiburg, Apr 11, 2018
Religion and religious themes in the TV series The Simpsons, in current popular music theater, in the Gothic scene: These and other topic are covered in the “Religion in today’s popular culture” lecture series run jointly by the Faculty of Theology and the Center for Popular Culture and Music this summer semester. The series aims to shed light, from the perspective of various academic disciplines, on how Christian faith is learned and lived in the diverse cultural contexts of postmodern society. Along with sociological and cultural considerations of religion and the postmodern era, the speakers will look at selected fields of contemporary popular culture: Art, poetry, movies and television, fashion, music theater and pop music, as well as rituals and customs.
Theologian Prof. Dr. Stephan Wahle launches the series on 19 April 2018 with a lecture which will lay the groundwork for the following talks. All lectures take place on Thursdays from 4:15pm in the Kollegiengebäude I, lecture hall 1009, Platz der Universität 3, 79098 Freiburg. The events are open to all; they are conducted in German. There is no need to register; admission is free.
