Preventative measures at the University Library
Freiburg, Mar 11, 2020
The University of Freiburg is restricting access to the University Library (UB) with immediate effect and initially until the beginning of the summer semester on April 1, 2020 to persons with a Unicard or library card. During the same period all guided tours with external guests, visits of school classes and other public events planned in the UB have been cancelled.
This is a preventive measure to counteract the further spread of the corona virus. So far, no member of the University of Freiburg has been infected. Studies and teaching as well as congresses and conferences will take place as planned. “With 1,750 workplaces for users and up to 15,000 visits daily, the UB is an exceptionally intensively used university building. Therefore, we have decided to take this special preventive measure for the protection of all our members and guests,” says Rector Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer.
The University of Freiburg has set up a coordination team to deal with the consequences of the corona virus, involving all the knowledgeable departments of the central administration. It is in constant contact with the competent authorities and follows their recommendations. The medical expert assessment of the responsible authorities is decisive for its actions.
On its website, the University continually updates the essential information and conduct recommendations and refers to the appropriate contact persons for detailed questions:
