It’s great to see you again
Freiburg, Jul 04, 2018
Discovering how the University has changed and reminiscing about the good old days as a student: From July 13-15, 2018 the University of Freiburg is having its tenth alumni meeting. Every former student, and even those who never graduated, as well as former staff members, are welcome to attend. The two main events will happen on Saturday, July 14th: an alumnae and alumni reception at noon with Freiburg’s new head mayor Martin Horn and Rector Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer in the “Historisches Kaufhaus” (historical merchants’ hall) at the Münsterplatz and, starting at 7pm, the alumni summer party with a University big band concert in the inner courtyard of the main campus at the Platz der Weißen Rose.
The faculties will be involved in the alumni weekend events. Visitors can explore the University and the city during the numerous tours offered: They can choose from tours of the Münstermarkt, the cathedral and the cathedrals’ construction shed, the old cemetery, the Augustine museum, the archaeological museum, the Uniseum, the detention cells, the botanical garden, the Faculty of Engineering campus, the University library, the exhibit “Literature in the nunnery” as well as the University’s underworld.
Academic lectures are available on cyanobacteria, Freiburg’s jurisprudence, intelligent networks, digitization and the Saturday university with the lecture “From the Thirty Years' War to the Peace of Westphalia.” There will also be a performance by the student theater group Ars Liberated from the University College Freiburg as well as concerts by the Academic Orchestra Freiburg and the Freiburg Symphony Orchestra.
The Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, and the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy will each participate in the program with their faculty day and faculty festival on Friday, July 13th. The meeting will end on Sunday, July 15th at 5pm with the live broadcast of the final of the World Cup in the MensaBar.
All interested parties are cordially invited to the alumni meeting. The central alumni meeting point is located in the house "Zur Lieben Hand", Löwenstraße 16, 79098 Freiburg. Participation is free; some events require prior registration.
