Combining internal corporate data with external geodata: The software from the start-up Geospin analyzes when and where products are in particularly high demand. Potential Geospin customers include companies, in particular, but also municipalities and public institutions. The spin-off company from the Department of Business Informatics at the University of Freiburg is receiving seed funding: the High-Tech Gründerfonds and Thüga Aktiengesellschaft, a holding and consulting firm with strong local roots, is investing a seven-figure sum in Geospin.

Geospin’s software connects customers’ in-house data with more than 700 external bits of information about the surrounding area such as weather, traffic, population, social media news, or points of interest such as cinemas, restaurants, or public facilities. The startup uses specialized machine and deep learning methods to analyze the data. “Our software has made it possible to analyze hidden structures and urban dynamics for the first time. Through it we have been able to make these insights available for companies or cities for strategic and operative decision-making,” explains Dr. Sebastian Wagner, founder and CEO. Areas of application include smart cities, mobility and energy sectors.
