Researchers from the University of Freiburg are designing a prosthesis that makes movements tangible
Freiburg, Apr 03, 2019
Everyday tasks like opening a plastic bottle can quickly become a challenge to people who have prostheses: although previous inventions have helped with picking up an object, they don’t allow to really feel with them. Now the Freiburg microsystems engineer Prof. Dr. Thomas Stieglitz and his research team want to change this: contact electrodes that they produce themselves are implanted into the human body and pass electrical stimuli from the prosthesis via the nerves to the brain. This enables patients to sense and perform movements as if with a real body part.
