Voices “Against Hatred”

Seven people from the University illustrate the various facets of the Project “One University – One Book” in a video and welcome others to participate

Freiburg, Oct 27, 2021

As part of the project "For a University of Diversity and Against Hate!", various event formats will start at the University of Freiburg on October 27, 2021. These events rely on the book Gegen den Hass (Against Hatred) by Carolin Emcke to shed light on the topic of hate from the perspectives of science, self-reflection, and public discourse.

In a video, University members such as the lawyer Prof. Dr. Andreas Voßkuhle, the chairwoman of the Staff Council Christine Jägle or Christian Kröper, former representative of the student government in the Senate, take a stand and explain, among other things, why they are committed to the project and why it is important from their point of view that the University deals with topics such as discrimination, exclusion or polarization for one semester.

Program overview

The Colloquium politicum will kick off with a digital lecture series starting on October 27, 2021, which will take place on five Wednesdays at 8 p.m. c.t. and for which anyone interested can register online one hour before the event. The lectures of the lecture series are available online (in German).

Starting on December 2, 2021, four panel discussions will also take place every Thursday from 6 p.m. c.t., so that the exchange can also develop into a broad public discourse with various stakeholders. A discussion between author Carolin Emcke and SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich is also planned for January 25, 2022.

Update 30.11.2021: Cancellation of the panel discussions on 2.12. and 16.12.2021

The panel discussions planned for December 2 and December 16, 2021 as part of the project "For a University of Diversity and Against Hate!" have to be cancelled against the background of the current pandemic situation.

The events will be postponed until the summer semester of 2022. Both panel discussions were planned in presence, since this format also lives from the spontaneous contributions of the participants and the auditorium. Therefore, the organizers do not consider a video conference to be appropriate.

The new dates will be announced in due time. Whether the events planned for January and February 2022 will take place will be decided at a later date.
