Election of two part-time vice rectors set for 13 December 2023
Freiburg, Dec 06, 2023
The Senate of the University of Freiburg will begin addressing the agenda item open to the university public at 1 p.m. on 13 December 2023. On the schedule is an election to fill positions in two departments that were newly created in April 2021. These are the part-time Vice Rector for University Culture and part-time Vice Rector for Internationalization and Sustainability.
All members of the University of Freiburg community are invited to attend this meeting in the Senate Hall on the second floor of the Administrative Building (Rektoratsgebäude). Registration is not necessary.
22 votes in favour required
The Senate elects the part-time vice rectors from a group of full-time University of Freiburg professors proposed by the rector. They are chosen by a majority of the members eligible to vote. This means 22 votes in favour will be required. The University of Freiburg will report the election results on its website.
According to the State University Law, the voting process is open to all members of the university public. In addition, the Senate will decide at the start of the session if the university public will be allowed to attend other parts of the meeting – the introduction of the candidates, in particular.
The environmental social scientist Prof. Dr. Daniela Kleinschmit has been the Vice Rector for Internationalization and Sustainability since April 2021. The historian Prof. Dr. Sylvia Paletschek has also been Vice Rector for University Culture since that time. The election is taking place at the end of their first term in office. The next term will start on 1 April 2024. A regular term in office is three years, but in accordance with the legal requirements, it may also end earlier to coincide with the end of a rector’s term.
