Freiburg, Jan 18, 2022
Find out here what has been postponed and what is still going ahead. Due to the pandemic, some events for the project “Für eine Universität der Vielfalt: Gegen den Hass” (“For a University of Diversity and Against Hate”) are being postponed or held online. New dates and times as well as access codes will be announced punctually.
Panel discussions scheduled for 20 January and 10 February 2022 postponed
Due to the pandemic, the panel discussions “Religionsgemeinschaften und das Thema Hass” (“Religious Communities and the Issue of Hate”) and “Ausgrenzung und Hass im Sport” (“Marginalization and Hate in Sports”) originally scheduled for 20 January and 10 February in conjunction with the project “Für eine Universität der Vielfalt: Gegen den Hass” (“For a University of Diversity and Against Hate”) are being postponed until the coming Summer Semester of 2022. This also includes Carolin Emcke’s planned talks with Christian Streich and Freiburg professors that were scheduled for 25 January and 26 January 2022. A new time for the talk between Emcke and Streich has already been set for 5 July 2022 at 6 p.m. in the Aula of Collegiate Building I. Meanwhile, the other formats will also continue to be planned as events to be attended in person. The new dates and times will be announced punctually.
Event on 15 February 2022 to be held online
The discussion of the rectors and presidents of the five universities in EUCOR – The European Campus will take place online as scheduled on 15 February 2022. The topic will be “Diversität und Offenheit als Aufgabe an Universitäten in Europa” (“Diversity and Openness as a Function of Universities in Europe”). The access codes for this video conference will be published punctually on the Homepage (in German).
Lectures that have taken place available online
The University of Freiburg started a series of events in varied formats in conjunction with the book “Gegen den Hass” (“Against Hate”) by Carolin Emcke on 27 October 2021. The aim of the series is to examine the issue of hate from the perspectives of science and research, self-reflection, and public debate.
Opening consisted of an online lecture series held through the “Colloquium politicum.” Five talks were to take place on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Central European Time. Anyone interested was able to register online an hour before the event. The lectures in the series are available online (in German).
The pandemic caused the cancellation of two of the events. The panel discussions scheduled for 2 December and 16 December 2021 were “Darstellungsformen und Wirkungsmöglichkeiten von Hass in unterschiedlichen Kultursparten” (“Forms of Depiction and Possible Effects of Hate in Different Branches of Culture”) and “Zusammenleben in einer Stadt – aber wie?” (Coexisting in a City – But How?”). They will also be held in the Summer Semester of 2022. The new dates and times will be announced punctually.
Video: Voices on “Against Hate”
In a video members of the university community such as lawyer Prof. Dr. Andreas Voßkuhle, Staff Council Chairwoman Christine Jägle, or Christian Kröper, the former representative of the student government in the Senate, present positions and explain, among other things, why they are committed to the project and why, from their point of view, it is important that the university dedicate a semester to addressing topics such as discrimination, marginalization, or polarization.
