Cooperation will beat the crisis
Freiburg, May 25, 2020
“The global research community has clearly recognized that we can only protect our societies and create the foundation for economic recovery through international cooperation. We will only defeat Covid-19 if we work together closely and in good faith.” In a joint message, top university associations in Germany and the United Kingdom have called for greater courage in international cooperation. In a recently-published article in the Tagesspiegel daily newspaper, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer, Rector of the University of Freiburg and chair of the German U15 association, and Prof. Dr. Anton Muscatelli, Principal of the University of Glasgow and Chair of Britain’s Russell Group, say why cooperation could be the key to overcoming the Coronavirus crisis. In this task, solidarity and teamwork are needed not just among universities. “What is true for research should also apply to community of states.”
