Forest Research Organizations conference on September 18, 2017
The annual congress by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) is being held in Freiburg from September 18-22, 2017 with around 2,000 visitors. In celebration of the union's 125 year history, a linden tree will be planted in front of the Herder building in the presence of the city of Freiburg's mayor, Dr. Dieter Salomon, the University of Freiburg vice rector, Prof. Dr. Gunther Neuhaus, the IUFRO president, Prof. Dr. Mike Wingfield and the director of the Forest Experimental Research Institute for Baden-Württemberg (FVA), Prof. Dr. Konstantin von Teuffel. By planting a tree, the participants are making a statement about the human connection with the forest and its exploration and care under the principle of sustainability. Following the planting, an artistic exhibit on forest history "125 IUFRO" in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences for Art, Sign and Pop Music in Freiburg will be opened.
