Science: Pro and Contra
Freiburg, Jan 09, 2018
A science career is for many young researchers the absolute dream: Your individual scientific interests are at the center of a well-paying professional position, your contribution to societal, cultural and economic progress, the exchange with like-minded folks from around the world, teaching and researching, talks and publications all promise prestige and yes, perhaps even fame. But is that really true? Aren’t there also risks and burdens associated with deciding to enter academia? How can you balance children and family commitments with your job? The podium discussion “Science: Pro and Contra – Career prospects for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates? Progress reports. Assessments. Recommendations” will be dedicated to addressing the opportunities and risks related to academic careers.
