Russian culture in Freiburg
Freiburg, May 16, 2017
Marina Tsvetaeva was one of Russia's most important 20th century writers. Working with the university, the city of Freiburg, and other interested parties, Slavic Studies Professor Elisabeth Cheauré has founded the Zwetajewa-Zentrum in her honor. It will provide a platform for Russian culture in the Freiburg area. The official opening will be on 23 May 2017 at 7pm. Following a welcoming speech by Director Cheauré, Freiburg mayor Dr. Dieter Salomon, and Professor Hans-Jochen Schiewer, Rector of the University of Freiburg, will speak about special relations between Freiburg and Russia. The keynote address will be held by Vladimir Mikhailovich Grinin, Russian Federation ambassador in Germany. Soprano Natalia Barannikova and pianist Alexander Plotkin will perform a world premiere of one of Marina Tsvetaeva's poems set to music.
