New theological anti-Judaism?
Freiburg, Nov 27, 2018
Calling Jews “deicides” came into popularity as early as a few centuries after the emergence of Christianity. Christian theology has been rethought, not least because of the horrors committed during the Shoah. However, up to most recently, there is some suspicion that there could be remnants of theological anti-Judaism. None other than the former Pope Benedict XVI has caused irritations in this regard. So how should people deal with the fact that Jesus was a Jew? What does that mean for Jewish and Christian beliefs? Rabbi Prof. Dr. Walter Homolka from Potsdam, the Freiburg theologians Prof. Dr. Helmut Hoping and Prof. Dr. Magnus Striet and the Judaism professor Susanne Talabardon from Bamberg will engage in a podium discussion to ponder these questions, which are the focal point of the Freiburg religious talks.
