Freiburg, Feb 02, 2018
In celebration of the end of the winter semester 2017/2018, the Academic Orchestra Freiburg (Akademisches Orchester Freiburg e.V.) will play for the first time under the direction of its new head conductor Joonas Pitkänen. The orchestra will open the concert with Engelbert Humperdinck’s overture to Hansel and Gretel, which the composer himself called “a kind of symphonic prologue.” Thereafter, the French-Armenian artist Astrig Siranossian will perform the first cello concert by Camille Saint-Saëns together with the orchestra. During the second half of the concert, Hector Berlioz´ Symphonie Fantastique, a key work of the 19th century symphony, will be performed.
