Fact versus fiction
Freiburg, Mar 10, 2020
When the earth is threatened by water shortages and heat waves: The literary genre Climate Fiction (Cli-Fi) deals with topics such as climate change and global warming and illustrates how these phenomena will affect the water supply for example. This year’s World Water Day will take place on March 20, 2020 with the motto “Water and Climate Change.” On this occasion, the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Freiburg will present literary perspectives and scientific facts in a colloquium. Participants will be able to get informed and exchange information on the topic in reviews, book extracts, short scientific lectures and a subsequent panel discussion. To kick off the event, there will be a reading of selected excerpts from current works by Cli-Fi authors Maja Lunde, Thore Hansen and Kim Robinson. Researchers from the faculty will then give lectures on the dangers and challenges that can arise from droughts, heavy rain and flooding.
