Words can change the world: That is what we can get out of the process of the Reformation in Europe. What started with Martin Luther’s new understanding of a Bible verse turned into a worldwide movement. Freedom from paternalism and fear, education and strengthening the individual, enormous energy for change – but also violent conflicts and division: 500 years after the Reformation began, the Protestant Church in Freiburg seeks to honor the consequences of such change. The theologian and church historian Prof. Dr. Volker Leppin will focus on the inheritance that Luther’s departure from traditional church doctrine made possible. With a welcoming address from the rector of the University of Freiburg, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer, and the city deacon for the Protestant Church in Freiburg, Markus Engelhardt.
