Climate models
Freiburg, Jan 14, 2020
Climate research and climate change are currently important topics in the public discourse - partly as a result of the Fridays for Future movement. However, Prof. Dr. Hans von Storch, meteorologist and climate researcher, warns against a “hype of climate anxiety.” His motto for sustainable climate research is “Generate knowledge”. In his lecture in the “Freiburg Horizons” series at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS), he will present models that are used in climate research with different objectives. On this basis, he will show what kind of knowledge they can generate. Hans von Storch is Professor Emeritus of Meteorology at the University of Hamburg and was Director of the Institute for Coastal Research at the Helmholtz Centre Geesthacht from 2008 to 2015. His concepts match the theme of this year’s FRIAS research focus on environmental forecasting.
