A Syrian Perspective on the German Lifestyle
Freiburg, Mar 10, 2017
Abdul Abbasi comes from Syria. Together with a friend he started a YouTube channel "German LifeStyle GLS" about a year ago in order to address the German lifestyle. With the help of subtitles in Arabic, the duo have created sketches and real-world experiments to develop caricatures of various cultural differences in everyday life and to address stereotypes of both nations. With well over 100,000 fans they have quickly catapulted themselves to Internet stardom. During the conference "Multilingualism in Society, Politics and Education" Abbasi will engage in a discussion with linguist Prof Dr. Helga Kotthoff about how he comes up with his sketches and what life is like as a refugee in Germany.
