Funding for “Network Philology and School“
Freiburg, Dec 08, 2017
German studies lecturer at the University of Freiburg Dr. Stefan Seeber has received a senior fellowship from the Stifterverband and the Baden-Württemberg Foundation for his project “Network Philology and School” under the program “Fellowships for Innovations in Higher Education”. The aim of the program is to promote exemplary concepts that further develop and improve university teaching. The senior fellowship comes with 25,000 euros in prize money. “The Network Philology and School is an excellent example of ideas and approaches that we are currently developing in Freiburg to further improve teacher training,” says Prof. Dr. Juliane Besters-Dilger, Vice-President for Academic Affairs at the University of Freiburg. “It promotes the exchange of research and practice and helps teachers gain their own teaching experience in partner schools early on.“
Stefan Seeber's project provides students with the opportunity to integrate their acquired specialized knowledge directly into the school lessons in the new modularized German studies teacher training program. In cooperation with the Freiburg partner schools, a double lesson of German is developed for one of the mandatory topics in the senior classes, which is then held as part of a teaching unit in the high school. In exchange, the students are able to attend the seminar at the University and get to learn more about their possible future place of study. The project “Network Philology and School” not only seeks to convey practical knowledge to the students, but also intends on fostering communication amongst everyone involved in the teacher training process, thereby creating more possibilities to achieve synergy in subject didactics, scientific theory, educational science and practice in schools.
