A record-breaking number of scholarship recipients will receive the Deutschlandstipendium for the 2019/2020 academic year. A total of 152 students from all phases of their studies and disciples at the University of Freiburg will receive funding. Half of the one-year scholarship of 300 euros per month is financed by regional and national sponsors, including companies, foundations and, in particular, private individuals. 99 members from the booster association Alumni Freiburg e.V. alone have made donations so that their donations could be combined into 21 scholarships. In accordance with the principle of the Deutschlandstipendium, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research matched the total funds of 273,600 euros raised by the University, thereby elevating the total to 547,200 euros available to the program.

The University of Freiburg places great value on the scholarship and encourages contact amongst the scholarship recipients. At a recent scholarship ceremony, it honored the scholarship recipients and their sponsors, thereby bringing them into contact with each other. The sponsorship is a sign of recognition. Criteria for the selection of scholarship recipients include not only excellent academic performance, but also social involvement and biographical hurdles. The sponsorship is initially tied to a one-year term. However, many scholarship recipients are able to maintain their high level of achievement and successfully apply again.
