Philologists tap into Latin works that influenced the development of modern Europe

Latin as the most important language in Europe – that was the case until the 17th century at least. University lectures and exams were held solely in Latin; most authors wrote their books in the language. But many of the books from that time have yet to be translated or edited. Freiburg researchers are cooperating with the Austrian Ludwig Boltzmann Institute to examine topics from that time that influenced the development of modern Europe – including politics, religion and the history of ideas.
