Around the World in an RV
The literary scholar Anna Sennefelder is studying travel descriptions in movies
Freiburg, Apr 08, 2020
Modern travelers who want to preserve their experiences on media for posterity and share them with others have a wealth of options to choose from, including social networks and sometimes even movie theaters. The Freiburg literary scholar Dr. Anna Sennefelder studied travel films to find out where the “travelogue” genre is heading in the twenty-first century. Her analysis shows a contradiction: what the protagonists actually want is to flee the consumer-oriented capitalist world – but they end up becoming a part of this world again in that they aim to make a profit from their films.
