Rocking with the Rolling Stones

Records, posters, ties, a pinball machine and a toilet with a lid featuring a cherry-red, sticking-out tongue – the Reinhold Karpp Rolling Stones Collection is a unique trove of more than 15,000 recordings. Curated by the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau, selected pieces are on display until June 1 at Meckelhalle, Kaiser-Joseph-Straße 186-190. The family of the Stones enthusiast Reinhold Karpp donated the collection to the University of Freiburg’s Center for Popular Culture and Music (ZPKM) following Karpp’s death. The collection will be investigated at the center in the next ten years – and will even be useful in teaching. The collector’s daughter, Annette Lene Karpp, and ZPKM director, Dr. Dr. Michael Fischer explain what makes this collection so special.
