Emmanuel Macron: A surfeit of hope and exuberance?
Freiburg, Nov 14, 2017
As Emmanuel Macron was elected president in May 2017, France heaved a sigh of relief and Europe seemed to have found its new hope – that is the diagnosis that Ellis Fröder gives who was the director oft he ARD studio in Paris until the end of October 2017 and who now works in the main studio in Berlin. The young, self-confident president seemed to everything right at first. After his triumph, however, a sobering thought followed: Macron has arrived on the scene in France’s political reality. Should he not be able to reform the country and carry the French along with him, political extremists and right-wing Marine le Pen will see an opportunity to overthrow Macron and his government. Fröder ist certain: If Macron fails, Europe will falter once again.
