Alexander von Humboldt’s lists
Freiburg, Jun 25, 2019
Alexander von Humboldt was born 250 years ago in Berlin. As a natural scientist and explorer, he has documented social, political and cultural insights as well as ecological ones. He brought together the natural sciences and the humanities in an exemplary manner and is now regarded as an early thinker of globalization. At the invitation of the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS), Ottmar Ette, Professor of Romance Studies at the University of Potsdam, will speak on July 4, 2019 about “Alexander von Humboldt’s Lists. Humboldt Science and its Regulations.” In his lecture, Ette talks about Humboldt’s travel diaries, which were written between 1799 and 1804 on a journey through America. The detailed explanations and drawings not only provide scientific insights, but also offer a glimpse of Humboldt's universal approach to research.
