Honorary profesorship for Ralf Poscher

Based on the recommendation by the Faculty of Law, the University of Freiburg has appointed Prof. Dr. Ralf Poscher, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (MPICC) an honorary professor for his outstanding achievements in research and teaching. The lawyer, who transferred from the University of Freiburg to MPICC on May 1, 2019, will continue to teach courses in the entire range of public law and various basic legal subjects, thereby contributing to the continued value of the law school at the University of Freiburg.
Ralf Poscher habilitated in 2002 at the Humboldt-Universität Berlin with the paper “Grundrechte als Abwehrrechte” (“Fundamental Rights as Rights of Defense”) and received his teaching license for public law, constitutional history and philosophy of law. From 2004 to 2009 he was Professor of Public Law, Sociology of Law and Philosophy of Law at the University of Bochum. From 2009 to the end of July 2019, Poscher held the Chair of Constitutional and Administrative Law and was Director of the Institute for Political Science and Philosophy of Law at the University of Freiburg. From 2013 to 2018 he was Managing Director of the Center for Security and Society and from 2018 to 2019 Dean of the Faculty of Law. Since May 1, 2019, he has been Director of the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law, where he heads the Department of Public Security Law that he has recently reconstructed.
