Wastewater power
New method uses bacteria in wastewater treatment ponds to generate electricity
Freiburg, Apr 13, 2017
Hydropower, wind and solar energy are renewable resources that have been used for years to generate electricity. Nevertheless, researchers continue to search for additional, renewable power supplies. At the University of Freiburg scientists are investigating a method that uses wastewater to produce electricity. It involves harvesting energy that is a by-product of other industrial processes. Bacteria that gather in wastewater treatment ponds serve as a source of electricity.
