Orange-the-World Campaign: Evening illumination at the KG 1 until December 10, 2021
Freiburg, Nov 29, 2021
Every year on November 25, the International Day against Violence against Women is a day of commemoration and protest to publicly highlight the global extent and forms of violence against women and to set a signal about discrimination and all forms of violence against women. Starting on this day, the worldwide campaign “Orange the World” by UN Women, an organization of the United Nations, was launched. As part of this campaign, including in Freiburg and initiated among others by the Freiburg Zonta Club, numerous buildings will be illuminated orange until December 10, 2021, which ends with “Human Rights Day.” The color orange stands for the end of gender-based violence.

The University of Freiburg is also participating in this campaign and will illuminate the Collegiate Building (KG) I orange for sixteen subsequent evenings. “The University of Freiburg is strongly committed to equality, tolerance and diversity, and strongly opposes any form of gender-based discrimination and violence,” explains Prof. Dr. Sylvia Paletschek, Vice-President for University Culture. “Therefore, we are very happy to support the worldwide campaign ‘Orange-the-World’ and would like to set a visible sign against violence against women and girls by illuminating the KG I building."
