Nobel laureate Bruce Beutler comes to the University of Freiburg to report on his research in immunology
Freiburg, Sep 30, 2022
Prof. Dr. Bruce Beutler will be a guest at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 as part of the Hermann Staudinger Lectures. From 4:15 to 6:00 p.m., Beutler will talk about his research on tumor necrosis factor, Toll-like receptors and other key components of the immune system. While working at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in the United States, Beutler identified most of the genes required for robust immunity and opened the door for a systematic search for disease-modifying mutations.
In 2011, Beutler was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine along with Jules Hoffmann and Ralph M. Steinmann. Beutler and Hoffmann discovered activation mechanisms of innate immunity.
Two to three times a year, FRIAS invites international Nobel laureates to Freiburg for the Hermann Staudinger Lectures. The series is named after Nobel laureate Hermann Staudinger, who taught at the University of Freiburg from 1926 to 1951 and received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1953.
