Microsystems for daily life
Freiburg, Jul 16, 2018
Self-powered skis that make emergency calls in the event of an accident, electric locks for hotels that also function in the event of a power failure, or a scleral implant controlled through an app: In the “Design Lab” course, master students of microsystems engineering take on the role of project manager, product designer or development engineers for two semesters and design, build and demonstrate a technical system. In the current course, it is important to develop microsystems for everyday use that generate their own energy and thus function without battery replacement or electrical connection. Only the budget of 100 euros per semester is predetermined - the system is not allowed to cost more than that. Everything else depends on the students’ creativity.
