The “Gulag“, the overarching system of forced labor camps in the former Soviet Union, represents the worst consequences stemming from the October Revolution. The exhibit at the University library Freiburg (UB) will present one-of-a-kind testimonies from the Gulag. Letters from incarcerated fathers to their children will be the center point of the exhibit. A documentary will show the tragedy of individual stories: Not one of the fathers returns. Visitors will also be able to see photographs by Andrej Shapran who documents the ruins of the work camps today – Moonscapes in Siberia’s No Man’s Land. The exhibit is a part of the “Russian Culture Days 2017” and will run daily until February 16, 2017 from 10am to 8pm in the UB.
