Chinese Studies caught between politics, morals and public expectations

The University of Freiburg and German Association of Chinese Studies will conduct a public panel discussion on November 19, 2021

Freiburg, Nov 09, 2021

After Sinology had largely been regarded as a "minor subject" for many years, the economic and power-political upswing of the People's Republic of China has not only led to increased public interest in China-specific topics, but also to political demands for "more knowledge about China". What contribution can and should China studies make to a better understanding of China? Sinologists from various universities will discuss these and other questions on November 19, 2021. The panel discussion entitled “Professionelle ‘China-Versteher’ zwischen allen Stühlen? Die Sinologie im Spannungsfeld von Politik, Moral und öffentlicher Erwartungshaltung” (“Professional ‘China-experts’ caught in the middle? Chinese Studies caught between politics, morality and public expectations”) is open to the general public.

The public panel discussion is a part of the 32nd Annual Conference of the German Association of Chinese Studies, which will take place in Freiburg on November 19 and 20, 2021.
